On December 12, 2025, the Columbus EDGE Program proudly celebrated the achievements of 29 remarkable graduates — individuals who showed up, worked hard, and transformed their futures through courage, dedication, and a commitment to change. Hosted in the Columbus City Council Chambers, the ceremony highlighted the strength of community partnership, second chances, and the power of economic mobility.
Alvis President & CEO Denise M. Robinson opened the ceremony by congratulating graduates on their impressive achievements — including earning 139 skills certifications ranging from OSHA safety training to Commercial Driver’s Licenses — and emphasizing EDGE’s commitment to developing skills, strengthening confidence, and building sustainable paths to employment.

A Ceremony Filled with Inspiration and Distinguished Guests
Guests in attendance at the graduation were: Mayor Andrew Ginther, City Council President Shannon Hardin, City Council President Pro Tem Rob Dorans, Aspyr CEO Lisa Patt McDaniel, Columbus City Attorney Zach Klein, , Councilwoman Nancy Day-Achauer, and Tony Wells, President of the Wells Foundation. The Wells Foundation administers the Economic Mobility Accelerators (EMA) component of EDGE, a critical support that has helped participants maintain stability while completing the program.
We are deeply grateful for the presence of these leaders. Their attendance reflects the importance of this work and underscores the City of Columbus’ commitment to expanding economic opportunity, supporting justice impacted individuals, and strengthening pathways to meaningful employment. Their support sends an encouraging message to our graduates: the community believes in their success and stands behind their journey forward.
These leaders also joined the congratulatory line, offering support and encouragement as graduates received their certificates. We are deeply grateful for their presence — their participation underscores the importance of EDGE’s mission and the City of Columbus’ dedication to strengthening reentry, expanding economic opportunity, and uplifting individuals who are building new futures for themselves and their families.

Valedictorian Speeches That Inspired the Room
Two members of the cohort — Edward Huckaby III and Mario Myers — were selected as valedictorians, recognized for their extraordinary effort, growth, and commitment to supporting their classmates throughout the program. Their speeches reflected gratitude, humility, and a powerful sense of purpose.
Valedictorian Highlight: Edward Huckaby III
Edward delivered a deeply moving message focused on transformation, resilience, and the courage to rewrite one’s future. He reflected on the invaluable lessons learned through the program:
“Every single one of our speakers reminded us that growth doesn’t happen in comfort… leadership isn’t just about titles — it’s about service, curiosity, and the courage to keep showing up.”
He shared a moment that resonated personally, connecting with a story from an earlier speaker:
“I remember when Mr. Battle talked about being released from prison and being confronted with old habits. I could genuinely relate… because I lived it in my own way.”
Edward’s closing message celebrated perseverance:
“We are more so graduates over circumstance… a reminder that all it takes is getting up one more time than we’ve been knocked down.”

Valedictorian Highlight: Mario Myers
Mario’s speech focused on empowerment, family, and the dignity that comes with financial and personal stability. He opened by acknowledging the growth shared by the entire class:
“Over the past five months, we’ve worked, learned, and grown — not just in workforce development, but in character, perseverance, and responsibility.”
He emphasized that EDGE built not just job readiness but long-term confidence:
“The EDGE program has given me the confidence and skill set to not only find a job — but to build a career.”
Mario also described how EMAs helped bridge financial gaps:
“The EMAs took some of the stress off my spouse… I was even able to finally take my spouse out for a nice date night.”
He closed with a powerful reflection:
“Employment isn’t just about what we earn — it’s about who we become.”

The Impact of Economic Mobility Accelerators (EMAs)
This cohort is only the second to benefit from the City of Columbus’ Economic Mobility Accelerators, a powerful tool that provides flexible financial support to individuals during training.
Graduates shared how EMAs helped them stay motivated and stable:
-
“EMAs gave me peace of mind and made a meaningful difference.”
-
“They relieved a lot of day-to-day financial stress.”
-
“I was able to help with bills, groceries, car repairs, and support my family.”
Administered by the Wells Foundation, EMAs eliminate financial barriers that might otherwise prevent participants from completing the program — easing stress, preventing setbacks, and enabling full focus on long-term goals.

A Class Defined by Determination
The EDGE Class of December 2025 demonstrated extraordinary resilience, leadership, and commitment. They showed up for themselves, their families, and their futures — earning certifications, mastering new skills, and overcoming challenges with courage and purpose.
Their success reflects:
-
Their personal determination;
-
The collaboration of Alvis, Aspyr, the City of Columbus, the Wells Foundation, and all of the referral and service partners of EDGE; and

To the graduates:
