Celebrating the Power of Art: HYPE Art Exhibition

The Family & Children’s program hosted an Art Show featuring incredible works created by the children. Moms from the Amethyst program, Alvis staff, and donors attended the event, learning about the creative process behind each project. Over the course of a month and a half, the children worked with the Family & Children’s staff to produce these inspiring pieces.

In preparation for the show, the group visited two exhibitions at the main library, where they explored a variety of artwork, shared their thoughts, and discussed techniques, materials, and sources of inspiration.

The showcased projects included:

  • Abstract Portraits: Inspired by the style of Picasso, the only artist discussed during the process.

  • Crayon Resist with Watercolors: A fun and colorful exploration of resist techniques.

  • Process Art: Focused on the journey of creating, rather than the final product, resulting in whimsical bubble-inspired pieces.

  • Collaborative Art: A team effort where everyone contributed, sparking conversations about collaboration.

  • “Hidden Colors”: A STEM/STEAM-based activity that revealed a spectrum of colors hidden in black ink.

  • Abstract Art: Created with file folders and address labels, prompting discussions on abstract versus figurative art.

  • Watercolor Collage: Each artist chose their own subject, showcasing individual creativity.

  • Mark-Making and Texture: Experimenting with non-traditional tools like combs, paper towels, and bubble wrap to apply mediums and create unique textures.

  • Free Spirit: Completely open-ended, allowing the artists to select their own materials and subjects.

The children thoroughly enjoyed learning about different art styles and were proud to present their creations to the community. A heartfelt thank-you to our donors for making these experiences possible and to our dedicated staff for their support, especially Janet George, Director of the Family & Children’s program and a talented local artist. #180degreeimpact
