Some stories remind us that a person's past does not determine their future. Rondale's journey is one of resilience, determination, and a commitment to building a better life despite extraordinary challenges.
A Childhood Marked by Adversity
Rondale's life began with obstacles that many people could hardly imagine. At just three years old, he entered foster care and spent several years moving through the system. As he grew older, he faced behavioral and emotional challenges that led to placements in multiple treatment facilities and interactions with countless professionals. By the time he returned to his mother's custody around age 14, much of his childhood had been spent navigating instability and hardship.
When Rondale turned 18, he had already spent a significant portion of his youth incarcerated. Only four months after his eighteenth birthday, his life changed dramatically when he was shot in the head by police. The incident led to a five-year prison sentence and became a defining turning point in his life.
Choosing Growth Over Circumstances
While incarcerated, Rondale received news that would change his perspective forever: he was going to become a father.
Rather than allowing his circumstances to define him, Rondale made a conscious decision to use his time productively and invest in himself. He focused on education and personal growth, earning his GED, completing college coursework, and obtaining more than 30 certifications.
Looking back, Rondale sees this period not as the end of his story, but as the moment he began creating a different future.
Building a New Life
After his release, Rondale met his wife and started working toward a life centered on family, responsibility, and opportunity. The transition was not easy. Leaving behind old habits and influences required persistence and determination.
Then, on January 21, 2021, tragedy struck again when Rondale was shot five times, just one day before the birth of his oldest son.
As a result of circumstances surrounding that incident, he was incarcerated again from March 2021 through July 2022. Even during those 17 months, Rondale remained committed to self-improvement and focused on preparing for a better future.
In 2023, he welcomed another son into the world. That same year, he endured one of the most painful losses of his life when his mother passed away approximately one month before his release. Despite the heartbreak, he was grateful to be able to attend her funeral and honor her memory.
Finding Support Through the EDGE Program
In 2024, Rondale successfully completed parole and continued working toward becoming a responsible, productive, and positive member of his community. He also welcomed his third son, providing even more motivation to create a stable future for his family.
A few months later, Rondale joined the Alvis EDGE Program, where he found encouragement, guidance, and staff who believed in his potential.
Through the support of the program, he earned additional certifications and received assistance while pursuing his Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL-A). The investment in his future paid off.
After obtaining his CDL-A, Rondale began his professional driving career with Rumpke. He later accepted an opportunity with Anderson Concrete, where he continues to grow professionally and build a successful career.
A Future Built on Determination
Today, Rondale holds a Class A CDL, OSHA 30 certification, Flagger certification, and State of Ohio Forklift certification, in addition to the more than 30 certifications he earned while incarcerated. He has earned his GED, completed college coursework, and established a career that provides opportunities for continued advancement.
Most importantly, he has built a life centered on family, personal growth, and positive contributions to his community.
Rondale's story is a powerful reminder that transformation is possible when determination meets opportunity. Through perseverance, hard work, and support from programs like EDGE, he has rewritten the narrative of his life and created a brighter future for himself and his three children.
