"Had I known about Amethyst, I would have been clean much sooner."
My substance abuse problem started eight years ago when a doctor prescribed pain meds. Until then, I had worked my whole life, raised my older children, lived in a nice house, and owned a car. Seven years later I was in full addiction and lost everything. If it weren’t for Amethyst, I would probably still be in the nasty cycle of addiction.
I made several attempts to cure myself by going to detox twice and attending meetings. I thought I could do this on my own. I made goals, but I couldn’t keep them. I was devastated.
Then one night after a meeting, a woman asked me for a ride home. She told me about Amethyst’s residential treatment program. I had not known about this program. So after dropping her off, I immediately got in touch with Amethyst. I was enrolled in classes even before they had space for me in their residential building.
It took two months before I could start working because I had an outstanding warrant for possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia. Once I got on probation, I started working at Popeyes. It was the best first offer I got. I have always had a very strong work ethic.
Then at Amethyst, I got hired by Honda. I am still on probation, but once I am off probation in a couple of months, I plan to go to school and work. I want to take classes to do something in nursing. I want to get started as soon as I can.
Amethyst has taught me so much and played a major role in my recovery. I learned about setting boundaries, how to love and care for myself, and how to communicate with people. I am very fortunate that like many other women, I was not on drugs from an early age.
I am so excited that I have my life back because of Amethyst! I am working, saving money and should graduate from Amethyst in six months. My intention is then to move to Canal Winchester where my youngest child has been looked after by my family and resume a normal, productive, and healthy life.
I have so much to look forward to.
