On June 23, 2026, the Columbus City Council Chambers were filled with pride, emotion, and possibility as Alvis proudly celebrated the graduates of the EDGE (Empower Development by Gaining Employment) program. This special afternoon honored not only the accomplishments of the Class of June 2026, but the resilience, determination, and hope that brought each graduate to this moment.

A Community Showing Up
This graduation was a powerful reminder that transformation happens when a community comes together. Elected officials, community partners, employers, and supporters filled City Hall to stand alongside our graduates. Among them was County Prosecutor Shayla Favor, who brought about 20 members of her team to witness the impact of the EDGE program firsthand—highlighting the importance of second chances and workforce development.
The EDGE program continues to be built through strong collaboration with the City of Columbus, Aspyr, the Wells Foundation, and employer partners committed to creating real pathways to employment.

Honoring the Journey
The graduates recognized that each graduate took a unique path to reach the stage—but they were united by their courage and commitment to change.
Throughout the program, participants earned industry-recognized certifications, built job readiness skills, and regained confidence in their ability to succeed.
As President and CEO Denise M. Robinson shared during her remarks, this class became more than a cohort—they became a family. They supported one another, prepared together, and showed up for each other every step of the way.

Voices of Strength and Transformation
Valedictorians Latrice McBeth and Edward Stringer delivered deeply moving speeches that reflected the heart of the EDGE experience.
Latrice spoke with powerful honesty about her journey, reminding the audience that people are more than their past. “I am not defined by one mistake or one chapter of my life,” she shared—a message that resonated across the room.
Edward brought energy, authenticity, and creativity, sharing original poetry that illustrated transformation and accountability. His words emphasized that lasting change begins from within—and that with the right support, a new path is always possible.
Together, their voices captured what EDGE represents: growth, resilience, and the courage to move forward.

A Defining Moment
Each graduate was called to the stage to receive their certificate, surrounded by applause from family, peers, and community leaders who showed up to celebrate their success.
As the ceremony reached its peak, graduates took part in a meaningful tradition—moving their tassels to mark the transition from one chapter of life to the next. It was a powerful symbol of leaving the past behind and stepping forward on a new path.

Remembering a Valued Classmate
The ceremony also made space to honor Laurie W., a member of the class who passed away but whose life and journey left a lasting impact. Her classmates carried her memory with them, demonstrating the deep sense of connection formed through the program.

A Surprise Recognition
As the ceremony concluded, the celebration turned into an unexpected and powerful moment of recognition. Representatives from The Ohio State University surprised Denise M. Robinson with the announcement that she is the 2026 recipient of the Archie M. Griffin Professional Achievement Award—an incredible honor recognizing her leadership and impact.
The moment was filled with pride and emotion as attendees witnessed a leader who has dedicated her career to creating second chances being recognized in such a meaningful way.

Looking Ahead
The EDGE Class of June 2026 leaves with more than certificates—they leave with skills, purpose, and a renewed belief in what is possible. Nearly all of the graduates have already secured employment and are stepping into new opportunities across industries.
